Murray Bay Resort, Cape Edgecombe, Queensland 2004
This small resort sits in the rocky coastline of Cape Edgecombe in the top end of the Whitsunday Islands. Everywhere you look there are textures, shapes, and forms, and very few people. An artist's paradise.
Each day I snorkelled on the small tropical reef just off shore, and then, still dripping sat down to draw directly onto aluminium etching plates, trying to capture the forms and textures of the corals and other underwater plants and animals. The plates were etched on site on my last day at the resort and used to produce a limited edition set of prints titled 'Reef'.
The remainder of my time was spent walking and photographing. Black and white images from those walks were printed onto translucent papers back in my studio and used for a series of artist books.
Work from this trip was shown at The Atrium Gallery, Buderim late in 2004.
